Bilbao-Bilbao 2026: El Vivero lays down the law in the season opener

Bilbao-Bilbao 2026: El Vivero lays down the law in the season opener

The cyclosportive season in Northern Spain doesn't start with the calendar, but with the first pedal stroke at the Puente de Deusto. On March 15th, the Occident Bilbao Bilbao 2026 will once again flood the roads of Bizkaia with watts and color. Established as a massive event that shuns the dictatorship of the stopwatch, it bets instead on the pure spirit of the classics. With the Torre Iberdrola as a silent witness, thousands of riders will navigate a logistics system of five staggered starts, designed to absorb a peloton that usually nears 8,000 participants.

Three distances and a judge of asphalt

The Bidebike organizers maintain their structure of total freedom: there is a single bib number, and the choice of route is made on the fly, depending on how the legs feel when reaching the split points. The 85-kilometer option is the ideal refuge for those seeking a pre-season ride without major shocks, tackling Andraka and Unbe before heading back. However, the true mysticism of this edition lies in the 125-kilometer course, featuring the local colossus: el Vivero. This climb, a regular fixture in the Vuelta a España, offers ramps that demand proper gearing and smart pacing after having already cleared Artebakarra, Gerekiz, and Morga.

High-performance logistics at the Technology Park

The day's nerve center will be located at kilometer 60, in the Zamudio Technology Park. There, the solid and liquid aid station will serve as the technical border between those opting for the short route and those deciding to tackle the classics loop. It is in this section where the group stretches out and cycling becomes introspective. The technical descent from el Vivero towards Galdakao requires maximum concentration before the triumphal entry into Bilbao's Gran Vía, where the finisher medal awaits to certify having passed the first big test of the year.

There are no timing chips or official rankings, but the pace at the front of the pack is often that of a covert race. The deployment of technical assistance and broom wagons ensures that everyone, from the first amateur to the last, enjoys a World Tour experience. The Bilbao-Bilbao 2026 is not just a ride; it is the real litmus test for the cycling community's fitness after the winter.
