Harry Palmer chases historic three-peat on Swansea's leg-breaker course

Harry Palmer chases historic three-peat on Swansea's leg-breaker course

Harry Palmer hasn't come to Wales for a stroll along the bay; he's here to defend his throne at IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea. Following his victories in 2024 and 2025, the Brit lines up with an objective bordering on obsession: the three-peat. However, this year the stakes are higher as the event joins the IRONMAN Pro Series, attracting a pack of elite triathletes determined to ensure Palmer doesn't make a solo break after T1.

Clash of titans on the Welsh tarmac

The primary threat to Palmer’s reign comes from France: Pierre Le Corre. The Frenchman arrives with a point to prove after his masterclass in New Zealand, promising a tactical battle from the very first strokes in the Prince of Wales Dock. It won't be a quiet morning. The 90km bike leg through the Gower Peninsula is a true leg-breaker, where the Bristol Channel winds usually dictate the outcome and every watt is earned the hard way on the technical climbs.

Løvseth against the ghost of fatigue

In the women's field, all eyes are on Norway's Solveig Løvseth. The reigning IRONMAN World Champion and Pro Series leader arrives after a grueling season following back-to-back wins in Texas and Hamburg. The big question is whether she has the legs to hold off Marjolaine Pierré, who is out for blood after being caught during the marathon in Germany. The Frenchwoman is a middle-distance specialist and knows the key will be gapping the field before hitting the run course—a two-lap, pancake-flat circuit that is mentally draining due to its exposure to the elements.

Local interest remains high as Nikki Bartlett, the 2024 champion, returns to racing after a personal hiatus. Her presence adds an emotional layer to a race offering a $50,000 prize purse and two qualifying slots for the 2027 World Championship in Chattanooga. With over 50 pros on the start list and thousands of age-groupers ready for the Relay and individual race, Swansea is set for a day of pure suffering and high-wattage action.
